Hornet boys and girls track compete at States

By: Ed Weaver | PIAA District IV | May 27, 2012

Members of the Wellsboro boys and girls track team competed at Shippensburg University over the weekend.

Seniors Taylor Acorn and Jordan Jackson each took home bronze medals in individual events. Acorn took home her medal in the 300m hurdles with a time of 45.64.

"To only run this four times and medal at States is so amazing to me," said Acorn. "It's something I never, ever thought I would do."

Jackson took home his medal in the 800m run with a time of 1:56.48.

"The key was to push as hard as I could and actually try to win," he said. "I wasn't going to try and be tactical and keep a place - I just want to try and run the race. I just let it go - no limits. There's no regrets at States, I thought I might as well try as hard as I can and see what I can pull out," said Jackson.

In the relay events, the girls 4x100m team of Acorn, Raina Rogers, Mikayla Palmer-Bacon, and Lauren Bleggi took home fifth place running a time of 49.65.

"It was great ending my track career at states especially being there with my best friends," said Palmer-Bacon. "We ran well, not just because we practiced, but because we had a bond with each other also. Having three seniors on the team and one freshmen, we leave it to Lauren to take the reigns next year!"

To round out Wellsboro's state qualifiers, Rogers finished 3rd in the 400m run heat with a time of 59.18, and the girls 4x400m team of Acorn, Rogers, Becky Chambers, and Mackenzie Marple finished 13th overall with a time of 4:06.85.

WellsboroAthletics.com would like to congratulate all the Hornets who competed at States over the weekend and thank them for their hard work and dedication throughout the season.
