Boys track tops North Penn, 96-53

The Wellsboro boys track team continued their hot streak by defeating rival North Penn Tuesday night, 96-53. The win is the Hornets third straight after starting the season 0-3.

In the 100m run, Junior Dan Brooks (12.1) and Sophomore Michael Pietropola (12.5) took home the top two spots. Brooks also finished 2nd in the 200m run (24.9) and Senior Jordan Jackson won the 400m run with a time of 51.9.

In the 800m run, the Hornets swept the podium as Senior Bobby Hill (2:16.1), Jackson (2:16.3), and Junior Joey Doganiero (2:21.5) took home the top spots. Hill added another win on the night in the 1600m run with a time of 4:44.7. Freshman Dakota Cleveland won the 3200m run in a time of 11:50.0.

In the 110m hurdles, Junior Blair Carson took home 1st place in 18.7 followed by Sophomore Jack Chambers (18.8). Chambers would win the 300m hurdles in 46.4, followed by Carson (49.0), and Freshman Rich Tardieu in third (53.5).

The Wellsboro relay teams won two out of three events. The 4x100m team of Brooks, Pietropola, Sophomore Nick Marple, and Sophomore Kieron Smethers won in a time of 45.9. The 4x400m team of Hill, Senior Matt Reese, Carson, and Junior Dylan Prough finished 2nd (3:50.0), and the 4x800m team of Jackson, Hill, Cleveland, and Doganiero won in 9:30.3.

In the jumping events, Marple finished 3rd in the high jump (5' 8"), Senior Thomas Straniere won the pole vault (11' 0"), and Prough won the long jump (18' 3"). Senior Mitch Snyder finished 2nd in the long jump (18' 2") and in the triple jump (37' 11"), and Junior Jermain Brooks finished 3rd in the long jump (17' 9").

In the throwing events, Junior Blake Gamble won the shot put (37' 2"), Sophomore Bill Lupkowski finished 3rd in the discus (92' 8"), and Marple won the javelin (142' 0").

With the win, the Hornets improve to 3-3 (2-3 NTL). The team will be back in action on Friday, April 26 as they participate in the Twin Tiers Invite.
