Doganiero to walk on at New Haven

By: Ed Weaver | PIAA District IV | June 13, 2014

Senior Joey Doganiero will continue his basketball career at the University of New Haven as a walk on.

Doganiero, who led the team in points (336), free throw percentage (.701), and assists (62), first realized he wanted to play at the next level during his Sophomore year of High School.

"I saw how much progress I made and how I always had a dream of playing at that level and after that season I set a goal to get there and from then on I worked hard to get to that point."

The recruiting process was two years in the making for Doganiero.

"The process started when I sent out a highlight tape of my junior year to different schools in the area and region and I saw New Haven had the major I was interested in. When I sent my film to them, they were one of the first schools to reply and come into contact with me showing interest and said to stay in touch throughout the year.

"When I decided to go visit there, I got to meet the coaches and sit and watch a practice and I just enjoyed the lifestyle of the campus and the way the team was coached and the coaches showed interest towards me and made me feel comfortable to go there."

Wellsboro head coach Todd Outman is very proud that Doganiero will continue his career.

"Joey is an extremely hard worker who only got better every year he played. He not only led by example on the basketball court but he also led by example in the class room and the community too. Joey is deserving of everything he gets on and off the court and the Wellsboro coaching staff wishes him the best of luck."

WellsboroAthletics.com would like to congratulate Joey and wish him luck as he competes for a spot on the team.
