Girls track tops Wyalusing, 118-32

The Wellsboro Varsity girls track team started the 2014 season on a high note as they defeated Wyalusing 118-32 on Tuesday, April 1.

Junior Lauren Bleggi won the 100m in 13.2 and Sophomore Lindsey Graver was third in 13.6. Bleggi took home first in the 200m run with a time of 27.4 and Sophomore Jada Jackson was third at 28.0.

The Lady Hornets swept the 400m run, with Jackson taking first (1:02.4), Junior Caitlynn Butler in second (1:09.1), Sophomore Riley Kitchen in third (1:12.6), Sophomore Brynn Ripley in fourth (1:12.9), and Freshman Janessa Davis in fifth (1:13.0).

Wellsboro swept the 800m run with Junior Annie Sweeney taking home the top spot in 2:55.5. Butler came home second (2:55.6), and Sophomore Samantha Bailey was third in 2:57.4.

Wellsboro took home the top two spots in the 1600m and 3200m runs, as Jordyn Coffee won both races in 6:16.9 and 14:09.1, respectively. Bailey was second in the 1600m in 6:21.8 and Sophomore Camryn Keane was second in the 3200m in 14:17.8.

Sophomore Haley Zuchowski was first in the 100m hurdles in 18.4 and second in the 300m hurdles at 56.0.

Wellsboro took home all three relay races. The 4x100m team won in 53.2, the 4x400m team ran 4:35.8, and the 4x800m team finished in 11:42.6.

In the jumping events, Senior Kaelyn Keane won the high jump at 4' 10", Graver won the long jump in 15' 4", and Jackson won the triple jump in 32' 10.5".

In the throwing events, Senior Alex Kurtz won the shot put with a throw of 30' 2", Senior Katie Straniere won the discus at 86' 5" and Kaelyn Keane won the javelin with a throw of 103' 2".

With the win, the Lady Hornets start the season 1-0 (1-0 NTL). The team will be back in action on Thursday, April 3 as they host Troy.
