MS Boys Basketball hangs on over CV

By: Ed Weaver | PIAA District IV | March 31, 2015

The Wellsboro Middle School Boys Basketball team hung on for a 27-22 victory over Cowanesque Valley on Monday, March 30.

Wellsboro was slowed down by CV's defensive pressure Monday night as they held a slim 9-6 lead after the first quarter and 10-9 at halftime. The Hornets also struggled to get second and third chances on the offensive side. The Hornets played solid defense, but did not force many turnovers. CV also did a good job at stopping Wellsboro's transition game.

The score was all tied up at 20-20 at the end of the third quarter, but the Hornets were able to hang on down the stretch for the win.

"I was concerned that the boys might not play with as much passion tonight after the long day of basketball on Saturday," said head coach Ed Hamm. "Even though we did not play our best game tonight the boys played smart and did just enough to hold on for the win tonight."

Andrew Brelo led the way with nine points on the night and Brandyn Tuttle pitched in five and six rebounds. Holden Kennedy scored seven points and Taynton Repard also added six points in the win.

The B team lost a close game 19-18. Billy Lechler scored a team-high six points.

With the win, the Hornets improve to 13-5. The team will be back in action on Wednesday, April 1 as they host Mansfield.
