Hornet Track teams sweep Sayre

The Wellsboro Track teams picked up a pair of wins against Sayre in an NTL dual meet on Wednesday, April 10.

The boys team won handily, 101-48, while the girls team edged Sayre, 74-67.

For the girls juniors Caitlyn Callahan (13.96) and Lauren Singer (13.99) were 2nd and 3rd in the 100m while freshman Hannah Morey (14.42) was 3rd, Singer (29.76) and Morey (31.19) were 2nd and 3rd in the 200m, and sophomore Alexis Banik (1:12.4) and junior Savana Baltzley (1:13.05) were 2nd and 4th in the 400m, respectively.

Sophomore Aislinn Hoose (3:05.41) was 3rd in the 800m, freshman Madeline Bryant (15:32.97) won the 3200m, sophomore Kathryn Burnett (19.16) and senior Zoe Iseri (20.53) were 3rd and 4th in the 100m hurdles with junior Kylie Butler (20.57) and sophomore Madelyn Rudy (20.83) were 3rd and 4th, and Rudy (58.67) and Iseri (59.27) were 3rd and 4th in the 300m hurdles.

The Lady Hornets won the 4x100m relay (53.84) and was 2nd in the 4x400m relay (5:12.03).

Wellsboro swept the high jump as freshman Jordan Judlin (4-ft, 2) took 1st and freshman Lilly Abadi and Sara Abadi tied for 2nd (4-ft, 2). Wellsboro took the top 6 spot in the long jump led by senior Dahlia Hosey (15-ft), junior Megan Starkweather (14-ft, 5), and Callahan (13-ft, 2.5), and Callahan (30-ft, 1) won the triple jump with junior Alex Chilson (26-ft, 3.5) finishing in 3rd.

Sophomore Kiyah Boyce (25-ft, 4) and senior Harmony Benner (25-ft, 0.5) swept the shot put, Boyce (68-ft, 8), sophomore Sophia Kurtz (65-ft, 3.75), and Benner (63-ft, 4) swept the discus, and Singer (91-ft, 4.5), freshman Emma Coolidge (88-ft), and sophomore Breighanna Kemp (84-ft, 5) swept the javelin.

"The weather has not been kind and we have some key injuries, but our field athletes are really coming along," said girls head coach Elizabeth Hoover. "Our win was mainly due to underclassmen, mostly sophomores and freshmen in the field events!"

For the boys senior Brett Rudy (11.65), junior Silas Wagaman (11.73), sophomore Joseph Grab (11.95), and senior Cam Tennis (12.11) swept the 100m, Tennis (24.14), Rudy (24.35), and freshman John Marengo (26.02) swept the 200m, sophomore Jonathan Wetzel (59.32) was 2nd in the 400m, and senior Bergen Weiner (2:26.3) won the 800m.

Junior Austin Richards (5:13.14) and Weiner (5:20.97) swept the 1600m, junior Alex Burrell (17.97) and junior Brennan Warner (18.25) were 1st and 3rd in the 110m hurdles, and Warner (44.73) won the 300m hurdles with sophomore Anthony Dunkel (53.03) in 3rd.

Wellsboro won the 4x100m relay (45.68) and was 2nd in the 4x400m relay (4:20.87), and 2nd in the 4x800m relay (10:33.55).

The Hornets swept the high jump as junior Frank Kewitt (5-ft, 6), senior Holden Kennedy (5-ft, 6), and senior Andrew Brelo (5-ft, 4) took 1st-3rd, sophomore Anthony Romania (8-ft, 6) won the pole vault, Kewitt (18-ft, 0.5), junior Karter Witmer (17-ft, 8), and Brelo (17-ft, 0.5) swept the long jump, and Rudy (37-ft), Kewitt (35-ft, 6), and Witmer (34-ft, 0.5) swept the triple jump.

Senior Hunter Brown (36-ft, 5) was 2nd in the shot put with sophomore Danny Timmons (31-ft, 11) in 4th, Brown (124-ft, 7.5) won the discus with senior Aidan Perry (93-ft, 4.5) in 3rd, and Richards (144-ft, 9) and Brown (135-ft, 3) took home the top two spots in the javelin.

The wins improve the girls team to 3-3 overall while the boys team improves to 4-2. Both teams will be back in action on Friday, April 12 at Mansfield University's Molly Dry Invite.
