Lewisburg falls to Selinsgrove in opener

By: Lewisburg Football | PIAA District IV | August 24, 2019

SELINSGROVE - Marc Persing biggest fear when his Lewisburg Green Dragons took the field on Friday night in its Pennsylvania Heartland Athletic Conference-Division I matchup with Selinsgrove was how his young offensive line would handle the Selinsgrove defensive front.

Turns out there was every reason for that fear.

The Seals limited Lewisburg to just 80 yards on the ground in Selinsgrove's 28-8 win over the Green Dragons.

"We got beat up front, we got beat up in the secondary. We got beat up in all phases," Persing said. "One thing I can say about my guys, not one of them quit. They were into it until the end."

Junior tailback Max Moyers became the school's all-time leading rusher in the game. Moyers now has 3,260 yards in his career, breaking the record of 3,217 set by Merle Moscarello from 2009-2011.

Selinsgrove jumped out to an early 14-0 lead scoring on their first two possessions of the game, but the Green Dragons stopped a drive on downs at the end of the first half to stay within two scores.

The Green Dragons had a chance to get back into the game with a score on the opening drive of the second half, but sack allowed the drive to peter out.

Lewisburg did on the board in the fourth quarter on an eight-play, 90-yard drive. Ethan Dominick started the drive with an 18-yard run, and finished with a 47-yard touchdown catch with 7:40 left in the game. Quarterback Nick Shedleski avoided the Selinsgrove rush, and rolled to his left. He directed Dominick to continue downfield, then let go a beautiful ball into the end zone.

The ball went over the outstretched arms of Selinsgrove safety Teague Hoover into Dominick's hands in the end zone. Moyers two-point run cut the Selinsgrove lead to 28-8, but the Seals recovered the ensuing onsides kick.

Shedleski finished the game 11-of-18 for 161 yards and a touchdown. Dominick caught five passes for 92 yards and a score. Moyers finished with 51 yards on 17 carries.

Lewisburg opens the home portion of its season at 7 p.m. Friday against Central Mountain in another PHAC-I contest.
