Selinsgrove plays well, but drops golf opener

HUMMELS WHARF  — Nick Mahoney shot a four-over par 39 to pace Lewisburg in its opener, a 176-182 victory over Selinsgrove at Susquehanna Valley Country Club.

It was the opener for both schools after their scheduled first matches were postponed due to rain. Selinsgrove's match with Central Mountain will made up on September 10th.

Despite the loss, it was the lowest team score posted by the Seals in three seasons. Selinsgrove four scorers in the meet were three sophomores, and a junior.

"We have matches three straight days (Selinsgrove plays Midd-West and Mifflinburg today (Sept. 1) and Mifflinburg again on Sept. 2)," Selinsgrove coach Ray Moyer said. "Hopefully, we continue to play well."

Sean Kelly added a 41 for the Green Dragons (1-0).

Garrett Howell shot a 43 and Sam Wetmiller added a 44 to lead the Seals (0-1). Mikey Felty posted a 46 and Gannon Steimling finished with a 49 for Selinsgrove.

The other Selinsgrove golfers were Talan Krepps (57) and Owen Hoot (58).
