Towanda beats Galeton 6-1TOWANDA ­— The Black Knights picked up a 6-1 win over Galeton in girls' tennis action on Thursday.

In singles, Towanda's Megan Paulish shut out Galeton's Julia Burrows 6-0, 6-0. Courtney Bennett of Towanda topped Galeton's Lauren Cimino 6-0, 6-1.

Towanda's Meghan Mendler defeated Galeton's Sierra Burrous 6-1, 6-2. Kelly Hoffman of Towanda topped Autumn Brelo 7-5, 6-4. In the final singles match, Towanda's Kelsie Davidson defeated Erica Nuccio 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles, Towanda's team of Paulish and Bennett beat Galeton's team of Burrows and Burrous 6-0, 6-2.

Galeton's only win of the evening was their team of Brelo and Nuccio topping Towanda's Cynthia Kerrick and Cassie Swackhamer 6-3, 4-6 (10-5).

Towanda's Kerrigan Walsh and Emily Morris topped Ayana Brelo and Lauryn Lancaster in an exhibition.

CV 5, St. John Neuman 0

Cowanesque Valley defeated St. John Neuman 5-0 in girls tennis at St. John Neuman on Thursday.

In singles, Cowanesque Valley's Delaney Ruef shut out St. John Neuman's Maylyn Ettinger 6-0, 6-0.

Morgan Cady of CV defeated Maria Helminiak 6-0, 6-1. CV's Cheyenne Gehringer beat Breanna Minnier 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, CV's team of Jackie Stiles and Ashley Wattles defeated SJN's team of Maylyn Ettinger and Molly Foresman 6-2, 6-2. CV's other team of Brynn Williams and Patty Wattles topped SJN's Kaylin Brown and Raena Matz 6-0, 6-2.

Wellsboro 5, North Penn Liberty 2

Wellsboro swept the singles 5-0, while North Penn Liberty swept the doubles 2-0.

Olivia Ryan of Wellsboro defeated NPL's Hannah DiMarco 6-1, 6-1.

Wellsboro's Joelle Quimby topped NPL's Marissa Trantham in the only match to go three sets 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.

Faith Kennedy from Wellsboro defeated NPL's Isabela Clark 6-2, 6-3.

Wellsboro's Morgan Guthrie beat NPL's Brooke Miller in a close match 6-4, 6-4.

Kristin Bair of Wellsboro defeated NPL's Amira Hartford 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles, NPL's team of Maddie Burd and Emily Wood beat Wellsboro's Georgia Macensky and Kassie Lewis 6-0, 6-0.

NPL's team of Kaitlyn Wetzel and Jayna Brodnicki defeated Wellsboro's Abigail Colton and Elizabeth Wonderlin 6-1, 6-2.

Volleyball

Waverly 3, Spencer Van Etten 2

Waverly came back from an 0-2 deficit to top Spencer Van Etten 3-2 in five sets (17-25, 24-26, 25-21, 25-19, 25-18). Waverly is now 2-0 on the season.

Katie Goodwin led the Waverly squad with five aces, 11 points, 26 assists, five digs and one block. Sydney Myers chipped in with six aces, 19 points, four kills and four digs.

Shailei Kraft finished with seven points, 13 kills and one block. Lyndsey Moore helped the cause with six points and 14 digs.

Jordan Mente had four aces, eight points and six kills while Fallon Huck tallied up seven aces, 12 points, four kills and three digs.

Waverly's JV team won 2-0 over SVE (25-14, 25-10).

Siera Kirk had three aces, seven points and four assists. Paige Lewis finished with six aces, 10 points and three kills. Courtney Stillman tallied up five aces and 11 points.

Next, Waverly takes on Newark Valley Tuesday at Newark Valley.

Field Hockey

Tioga 1, Harpursville 2

Tioga's lone goal was scored by Hannah Moon with 5:11 remaining in the match.

Tioga tallied two corners, one shot on goal and 14 keeper saves.

Golf

Sullivan County falls to Montgomery and Muncy

John Saxe finished with a 104 to lead the Sullivan County team. Alex Baumunk finished second on the team with a 111.

With a 117, Nathan Hansey finished third on the team while Alexis Randall brought up the rear with a 120. Sullivan County totaled 452 strokes, Muncy's four best finished with 356 strokes while Montgomery's four best finished with 355.
