NTL wrestlers go 14-3 in quarters at regionalsIt was a big opening day for NTL wrestlers at Northeast Regionals on Friday as they went 14-3 in the quarterfinals.

Athens was second in the team standings with 32 points, Line Mountain leads with 37, Muncy has 29.5 for third, Southern is fourth at 27.5 and Wyalusing is fifth at 24.

At 106 Troy's Sheldon Seymour opened with a 22-7 technical fall win over Nicholas Yule of Berwick in 4:53.

Athens' A.J. Burkhart had a 16-0 technical fall win over Dennis Putzi of Honesdale in 4:03 at 113 and at 132 Athens' Brian Courtney pinned Trevor Bingaman of Mifflinburg in 3:24.

Towanda's D.J. Knolles won 17-15 in sudden victory at 132 over Jeff Bennett of Hanover Area.

Athens' Gage Cannavino pinned Marc Stine of Valley View in 1:13 at 145 and at 152 Athens' Kaidon Winters won 8-2 over Mitch Milbrand of Bloomsburg, while Wyalusing's Josh Haley pinned Jeremy Bergold of Meyers in 1:01.

Wyalusing's Creighton Edsell won 3-0 over Cal Haladay of Southern Columbia at 160 and at 170 Nate Bradley of Athens won by technical fall 21-6 in 4:33 over Colin Browne of Meyers.

Troy's Zach Zimmerman won 11-7 over J.J. Hooper of Hanover Area at 182, while Towanda's Joe Koss pinned Adam Buczynksi of Wyoming Area in 3:06.

Wyalusing's Mike Wilcox won 5-3 over Lucas Borum of Meyers at 195 and at 285 Wyalusing's Dawson Otis pinned Valley View's John Shnipes in 41 seconds, while Justin Kriner of North Penn-Liberty pinned Nick Hannon of Hanover in 46 seconds.

Athens' Chris Horton was pinned in the opening round in 3:07 by Bob Long of Lake-Lehman at 120 and Wyalusing's Luke Yonkin lost 10-3 to Noah Stamm of Milton at 138. Towanda's Seth Johnson lost 10-4 to Ivan Balavage of Scranton Prep at 195.

The wrestlers are back in action this morning at 9:30 a.m. for the semifinals.

The afternoon session starts at 4 p.m. with the parade of champions with the consolation finals and finals to be wrestled immediately after the parade of champions.
