Allen Taylor won the 110 hurdles by just over a second and picked up a win in the triple jump with a leap of 39 feet, 1 inch, but Williamsport fell in a close one against Selinsgrove, 79-71, in boys track and field on Tuesday afternoon.

Brandyn Tuttle posted a double-double of 16 points, 10 rebounds while adding four steals as Wellsboro defeated Athens, 81-47, in boys basketball.

HUGHESVILLE — Maybe it was Emily Akers hustling from past midcourt and blocking a potential go-ahead, buzzer-beating layup. Maybe it was point guard Kendra Smith repeatedly attacking taller athletes and making big second-half plays. Or maybe it was Jade Cordrey and Jayden Leighow constantly diving after loose balls.

Williamsport fell to William Penn in the Central York Tournament, 63-55, Friday night as the boys basketball season began. Marcus Simmons (10), Al-Tamar Jason (13) and Darryl Wilson (14) each scored double-digit points. The Millionaires will play Franklin Learn­ing Center, a 100-41 loser to Reading, in the consolation game today at 6.
