The Wellsboro Boys Tennis team suffered their first loss of the 2019 season to Williamsport on Monday, April 22.
Natalia Diaz earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over the Seals' Daisy Ettinger at No. 1 singles. Katie Meale (No. 2) and Mia Shuler (No. 3) earned singles victories as well with 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0 scores, respectively.
The Sun-Gazette softball coverage area once again was heavily represented on the Pennsylavnia Association High School Softball Coaches Association 2018 All State Teams. A near-record 26 players earned all-state honors in four different classifications, including seven who earned first-team selections.
Kristin Whitehead didn't stray too far from the two volleyball nets set up in Williamsport High School's gym. As she watched some of the school's girls during the practice session, she'd routinely walk up to a player after they passed to a teammate during drills and give her advice.
Gabe Yohn struck out seven seven and drove in three runs as Montgomery baseball defeated Muncy, 12-2, in five innings. Yohn was 2 for 2 with a double and a home run. Jensen Drick also homered and drove in three runs for the Red Raiders.
Allen Taylor won the 110 hurdles by just over a second and picked up a win in the triple jump with a leap of 39 feet, 1 inch, but Williamsport fell in a close one against Selinsgrove, 79-71, in boys track and field on Tuesday afternoon.
Brandyn Tuttle posted a double-double of 16 points, 10 rebounds while adding four steals as Wellsboro defeated Athens, 81-47, in boys basketball.
